The FC Dallas Foundation and CornerStone Staffing Launch 2021 Community Action Grants

FCDF 2021 Community Action Grants - DL3

The FC Dallas Foundation’s Community Action Grant Program presented by CornerStone Staffing focuses on supporting local non-profit organizations with similar missions of promoting healthy and active lifestyles for underserved youth. In 2020, four grants in the amount of $5,000 each were awarded. We took some time to catch up with our 2020 grant recipients to see what they have been up to this year!

Boys & Girls Club of Vernon:

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Vernon is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as responsible, caring and productive citizens. Despite the challenges of 2020, the Vernon Boys & Girls Club saw a growth in participation in their soccer program. The funds given through the FCDF Community Action Grant presented by CornerStone Staffing were used to improve player safety, technical skills and conditioning with the addition of soccer clinics. Plans to continue growth of the program include working with the local school district on the addition of soccer into the school sports options.

Community Storehouse:

Dedicated to the education and well-being of low-income children in our community, Community Storehouse positively changes educational outcomes for children in crisis. Community Storehouse was able to continue providing Weekend Snack Packs and Summer Lunch Boxes during a year of great need. The funds that they received through this grant supported these programs that address food insecurity faced by low-income students.

Heart House:

Heart House provides safety, education, and opportunity to refugee and underprivileged children to move students from a mindset of chaos to calm. The Head, Heart, and Hands (H3) Program, a program that focuses on promoting academic success, trauma-recovery, cultural enrichment, and the development of social and coping skills, was transitioned to a blended format in 2020 including virtual and socially distant outdoor activities. Heart House was able to purchase materials and supplies such as books, school supplies, and athletic gear for the H3 Program with the funds from the 2020 Community Action Grant.

Wesley-Rankin Community Center:

Nestled in the heart of West Dallas is Wesley-Rankin Community Center, an organization that provides education and resources to drive community transformation. With the challenges of 2020 and the transition to virtual learning, the Wesley-Rankin Community Center adapted their programming to continue successfully serving their community. School supplies and fresh produce are provided weekly in a drive-thru format as well as virtual after school programs including extracurricular activities, tutoring opportunities and telehealth counseling sessions. The funds from the 2020 Grant Cycle were used to support this transition during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
