We scored some good goals, we defended together and all the players in the roster showed their responsibility, it was a group effort. - Luchi Gonzalez
FRISCO- The U-17s went unbeaten in the first of two rounds of qualifiers for the 2017-18 Generation Adidas Cup that started on Friday in Toronto, Canada. FC Dallas claimed their first win on Friday morning in a very defining match against the Columbus Crew SC with a 4-0 victory.
“All the boys did well, had some really good moments and handled some moments that showed that it’s early season and that we need to keep working and getting better”, said Academy Director Luchi Gonzalez.
FC Dallas U-17s had a Texas Derby as they faced the Houston Dynamo on Saturday morning as their second game of three and winning 2-0.
“We scored some good goals, we defended together and all the players in the roster showed their responsibility, it was a group effort,” Gonzalez said.
In the last match to earn three more points FC Dallas would have to face the Colorado Rapids. A match in which FC Dallas took the lead early on with a 2-0 against the Rapids. Colorado was able to score one goal but the final results gave FC Dallas a 2-1 win over the Rapids. FC Dallas now finds itself on top of the Central Region standing with 9 points.
“Absolutely happy with the boys getting 9 points, it allows us to control the group and go to the next round knowing what we need to do to qualify,” Gonzalez said.
The second round of qualifying matches will take place over 2018 President’s Day weekend. The top teams of each group will advance to face international competition in the 2018 Generation Adidas Cup Finals that are taking place right at home, the Toyota Stadium. Now traveling back to Texas, the FC Dallas U-17s shift focus to their upcoming match against the Texas SC Houston U-17s in their fourth game of regular season taking place at Tomball, Texas this Sunday, October 15.
“We are glad to go back and join the players that did not travel and compete for our next fixture,” Gonzalez mentioned.
