5. Ryan Barlow (M - RS-So.), University of Denver
    19 GP, 16 GS, 1456 Minutes, 3 Goals, 2 Assists

After coming on slowly during his Redshirt-Freshman season, the Coppell-native saw the field in every single match for the Pioneers in 2017, starting in 16 of them and logging five times the number of minutes he did a year ago. With three goals and two assists en route to a 11-6-2 record, Barlow is poised to take another leap at Denver in 2018.

4. Ben Hale (GK - RS-Fr.), Furman University
    19 GS, 1708 Minutes, 18 Goals Against, 43 Saves, 6 Shutouts

Unable to compete last season while dealing with lingering ACL issues from the 2016 U-18 National Championship, Hale returned to form at the collegiate level playing in 19 of 20 games for the Paladins with six shutouts and a 0.95 goals against average

3. Mark Salas (D - Fr.), North Carolina

Honorable Mentions

Gio Montesdeoca (F - RS-Fr.), North Carolina
12 GP, 1 GS, 271 Minutes, 4 Goals, 1 Assist

Although not as dramatic of a first-year impact as Hale, Salas or Servania, a case can be made for Gio Montesdeoca’s four goals in 12 appearances for the Tar Heels. Super Sub numbers like that can only mean good things for the forward’s future.

Brandon Terwege (D - Fr.), UCLA
16 GP, 16 GS, 1337 Minutes

For the second straight year, an FC Dallas product was staple of the UCLA back line as a freshman. After Reggie Cannon signed with the pro club last December, Terwege took his talents to LA and played in all but two games for the Bruins, who finished with a 7-10-1 record.

Blake Willis (D - Fr.), Columbia
16 GP, 16 GS, 2 Assists

On the surface, Willis’ freshman year might not stand out, but the defender started all 16 games for Columbia, who notched the nation’s second-best defense with just six goals allowed (.360 per game).
