FRISCO - Two hours before FC Dallas played host to Toronto FC, Kellyn Acosta and Matt Hedges took to the field in East Hartford, Connecticut, for the United States Men's National Team.
The defender and midfielder both started and played 90 minutes for the U.S. during its 2-1 victory against Ghana, with Acosta scoring a 52nd-minute free kick that went down as the game's deciding goal.
Acosta's sensational free kick was a fitting way to mark his fifth-straight match for the U.S., and his ninth cap overall. The low strike was bent with curve around the Ghanaian wall near the edge of the penalty box. It was the first goal in international play for the Plano, Texas, native.
The game also marked the third USMNT appearance for Hedges, but the first time he started for his country. As a result, it was also the first time Hedges played a full match for the United States.
The friendly was the final game for the U.S. before this summer's Gold Cup. The U.S. opens play in Group B on July 8th against Panama in Nashville, Tennessee.
