Chris Seitz nearing top of MLS goalkeeping stats after shutout at RSL

Seitz RSL

With two of the best center backs in the league in front of him and a 21-year-old central midfield pair that covers as much ground as anyone in the league, Chris Seitz has a front row view of one of the most smothering defensive units in the league. He showed once again on Saturday night, that when offenses do manage to slip through, he's up to the task.

Seitz stopped all four shots on goal in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium, his most saves in 16 matches dating back to the 4-2 win at New England on May 21st. It was the fifth time he's made four saves this year while twice he has made five saves in a match.

With the shutout, Seitz vaulted a handful of goalkeepers to move into fourth in goals against average behind only Zac MacMath, David Bingham and Clint Irwin. He trails only Bingham among goalkeepers with at least 20 appearances this season.

"Defensively as a whole, all 11 guys got behind the ball and worked really hard, which was crucial tonight," said Seitz. "We came here to get three points but we’re not going to hang our heads for getting a draw. Getting points out of this game is big for us moving forward."

Additionally, Seitz is third in the league in wins and second in shutouts and enjoying career highs in nearly every major category including starts, minutes played, wins, shutouts, goals against average and he needs eight more saves to tie his career high in that category as well.
