FRISCO, Texas – It was back to winning ways for North Texas SC on Thursday afternoon, as the team defeated Sporting Kansas City II 1-0 over 90 minutes. The two teams also contested a 30-minute period immediately following the first match, giving the Academy and trialists a chance to get some touches.
The initial lineup included Carlos Avilez in goal, Eddie Munjoma, Nkosi Burgess, Alisson dos Santos Correa, Derek Waldeck, Juan Manuel Alvarez, Oscar Romero, Thomas Roberts, Anders Engebretsen, Dante Sealy and Alex Bruce.
After scoring the first goal on Tuesday, Sealy got himself on the scoreboard again with a cheekily taken penalty kick. The forward, who won the spot kick himself, confidently slotted home via a Panenka to give his side the early lead.
Following the goal, though, things seemed to get a bit stagnant out on the pitch. Similar to Tuesday, the contest became much more of a physical contest as North Texas’ passing movements began to slow down a bit.
Second half substitutes – most of which entered around the 60th minute – included Gibran Rayo, David Rodriguez, Pedro Conceição and Ronaldo Damus.
Much of the last 45 was contested in the midfield, and although Sporting Kansas City II’s physicality managed to give them a little bit of momentum, North Texas managed to hold on to seal another preseason victory with a solid defensive showing.
