FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, April 19) – FC Dallas defender Matt Hedges underwent a successful operation to repair the meniscus in his left knee today at Texas Health Center for Diagnostics Surgery.
The surgery was performed by FC Dallas’ team doctor, Jim Walter. Hedges suffered the injury in a 3-1 win against Portland Timbers FC this past Wednesday, April 13. He is expected to miss four to six weeks.
The FC Dallas captain had played every minute (630 minutes, 3 shutouts) at center back for the first-place club prior to missing Sunday’s 2-1 victory against Kansas City. Veteran defender Zach Loyd was able to step in seamlessly for Hedges against Sporting, helping Dallas extend its 10-game, regular season unbeaten streak at Toyota Stadium.
One of the most reliable players in franchise history, Hedges has appeared in 131 of Dallas’ 136 MLS regular season matches since being drafted in the first round (11th overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft.
