Center back acquired on permanent transfer using TAM
FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas has acquired defender José Antonio Martinez from SD Eibar on a permanent transfer and signed the player using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). He will be under contract through the 2023 season with club options for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Per team policy, additional terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
Martínez will be added to Dallas’ roster in January 2021 pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). He will occupy an international roster spot.
Martínez, 27, joins FC Dallas from La Liga’s SD Eibar after two seasons on loan to Granada CF. He appeared in 56 matches for Granada and was part of the team that helped the Nazaríes get promoted to Spain’s top league.
Martínez started his soccer career in Siempre Alegres and Nervión’s youth systems in Spain before playing for CD Alcalá in 2013. He has helped various teams earn promotion from Segunda Divisíon B to LaLiga 2 including Sevilla Atlético and FC Barcelona B. He appeared in 50 matches overall for Sevilla Atlético between 2014-2016 and 56 matches overall for FC Barcelona B from 2016-2018.
