FRISCO, Texas (Thursday, Aug. 7) – FC Dallas has picked up defender Walter Cabrera on loan from Paraguayan Primera Division side General Diaz, pending a P-1 Visa, the club announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
“Walter is a young player who fits very well into our style of play,” said FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja. “He was part of the squad that helped General Diaz gain promotion into the first division in 2012. I feel the experience he gained there over the past five seasons will allow him to bond quickly with our team and adapt to Major League Soccer. The Paraguayan Primera Division is a very physical and competitive league. He has the experience to be a champion already and we are happy to have a player who is willing to continue his growth with us here in Dallas.”
A 24-year-old defender who has played at center back and outside back for General Diaz, Cabrera has appeared in 61 matches for the Paraguayan Primera Division club. He’s scored two goals, most recently in a 4-2 win over Sol de America on March 22. Before joining General Diaz, Cabrera spent his youth career with Cerro Porteño.
