FRISCO, Texas (Friday, Feb. 5, 2016) – FC Dallas has come to terms with defender Walker Zimmerman on a new contract, the club announced today.
With FC Dallas’ home opener at Toyota Stadium against the Philadelphia Union just 30 days away – the team will send signed photos of Zimmerman to the next 50 ticket orders for the game against the Philadelphia Union. The match, which is set for Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. CT, is presented by AdvoCare.
Zimmerman, 22, was drafted seventh overall by FC Dallas in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. The 6-3 defender has increased his playing time each season, culminating in 20 appearances and over 1,000 minutes played last year.
Zimmerman was at the heart of Dallas’ defining moment in the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs. He entered the Nov. 8 match against Seattle Sounders FC in the 84th minute, scored the series-tying goal in stoppage-time and buried the game-winning penalty kick to send FCD to the conference finals.
A Georgia native, Zimmerman played two seasons for Furman University where he scored 11 goals and tallied five assists in 39 games. He was a two-time NSCAA All-American. He has played with the U.S. U-18, U-20 and U-23 National Teams. His most recent international match was last April – a friendly against Mexico ahead of the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament.
