FRISCO, Texas - There was a certain FC Dallas flavor to the U.S. men's national team's 3-0 win over Honduras in World Cup qualifying Wednesday night.
Four FCD Academy products (Kellyn Acosta, Reggie Cannon, Weston McKennie and Ricardo Pepi) and former Dallas SuperDraft pick Walker Zimmerman started the USMNT's third and final qualifier of the international window in Minnesota.
Acosta and McKennie combined for the opening goal in the 8th minute when the current LAFC midfielder swung in a free kick for McKennie to head home.
Acosta's set piece delivery proved vital for a second time in the first half when his cross fell to Zimmerman who made no mistake and finished from close range. The two-time MLS Defender of the Year was also involved in the USMNT's final goal when he settled a flicked header from Pepi for Christian Pulisic who added the third goal of the night.
FC Dallas Homegrown and Designated Player Jesús Ferreira made a late-game appearance when he replaced Pepi in the 76th minute. Ferreira made his first start for this World Cup qualifying campaign in the USMNT's 1-0 win over El Salvador last week. The U.S. remains in second place in the Concacaf qualifying octagon, three points above Mexico. The Stars and Stripes will visit their rivals in the Estadio Azteca on March 24.
