FC Dallas and MLS MVP Ferreira agree in principle to new contract

MVP David Ferreira is returning to FCD in 2011 with a multi-year deal

FRISCO, Texas (Dec. 22, 2010) – League MVP David Ferreira has agreed in principle to a deal that will bring him back to FC Dallas in 2011. Both sides hope to finalize the deal early in the new year.

“I’m extremely pleased to have David Ferreira back with FC Dallas,” said head coach Schellas Hyndman. “Everyone knows how important he is to FC Dallas’ success. What fans may not know is that he is truly a wonderful person, who leads by example. David’s leadership and remarkable play will help FC Dallas continue to compete for an MLS Cup.”

Ferreira was named the 2010 Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player, as well as to the  2010 MLS Best XI following a season that saw the Colombian international tally eight goals and 13 assists. During the Dallas side’s playoff run, Ferreira added two goals and three assists, helping guide FC Dallas to its first MLS Cup appearance and a Western Conference Championship.

“I’ve always said that I felt great with this team. I felt like I was at home,” said Ferreira from his home in Colombia. “The support of the coaching staff was very important in the confidence it gave me when I was on the field. That’s why I wanted to remain with the team. The team helped me to get all the merits I achieved in 2010.”

Although Ferreira finished the regular season as the most fouled player in the league with 84 fouls suffered, he still played every game, missing just one minute of action all year. Ferreira earned a spot on the MLS All-Star squad this season, playing 45 minutes against Manchester United in the 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star game on July 28.
