FRISCO - There’s a buzz inside the locker room at Toyota Stadium this weekend – and for good reason.
Six weeks to the day since the start of FC Dallas’ preseason, less than 24 hours now separate the team from opening kick of the 2016 season.
“It’s exciting. We’re just itching to play someone else,” defender Walker Zimmerman said. “Christmas morning, Christmas Eve, first day of school – it’s got the same feel. You’re just ready to get going and get [the season] underway.”
“Definitely similar to that first day of school – that excitement, that little bit of nervousness,” defender Atiba Harris added. “I think the guys are pretty pumped and pretty excited for the game and to get out there.”
When the opening whistle blows on Sunday, and the excitement subsides, Zimmerman said the team knows their focus for the next eight-plus months is on one goal.
“I think seeing where we got last year and knowing how we improved in the offseason – we know we’ve only gotten better, we’ve got more depth, more ability coming off the bench for sure – so we look at what we accomplished last year and our expectations are even higher.”
“I think the coaching staff has been doing a really good job of building on what we’ve done last year,” Harris said. “All in all, I think everyone is ready.”
