NEW YORK (Monday, September 15, 2014) – FC Dallas forward Blas Perez was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 27 of the 2014 MLS regular season.
Perez scored FC Dallas’ two goals in their 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Perez scored the game’s opening goal in the 20th minute with a wonder strike from an impossible angle. After FC Dallas midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson floated a pass to Perez, the Panamanian forward volleyed the ball from in front of the corner flag which curled into the left side of goal evading the outstretched hands of Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted.
Perez’s second goal put FC Dallas ahead in the 78th minute and proved to be the game winner. Following a free kick into the box, the ball took a deflection off of FC Dallas forward Tesho Akindele's head and fell to the feet of Perez who first-timed a shot into the back of the net.
FC Dallas hit the road to take on the LA Galaxy on Saturday, September 20 10:30 p.m. ET.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
