FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas head coach Luchi Gonzalez took to the airwaves for another episode of “The Luchi Gonzalez Show” on 105.3 The Fan, presented by Toyota. To kick things off, the coach was asked which player has the biggest personality in the locker room.
“We have a gentleman named Kobra,” Gonzalez said, referencing Zdenek Ondrasek. “He’s the only guy I know that listens to very heavy, progressive house music at 8 in the morning. But somehow, he gets everybody moving to it. He’s influenced everybody. That’s a great energy to have.”
As the interview transitioned away from Ondrasek and his role in the squad, Gonzalez was asked about his desired match day apparel. Does the coach prefer a full suit, like most NBA coaches? Perhaps a full uniform like MLB managers? It seems Gonzalez is more comfortable with his own creative style.
“I try to keep it simple,” Gonzalez said. “I’ll wear some thin sweaters in cool weather. If it’s a little colder, I’ll wear a blazer and jacket – things I’ll be comfortable in so I can be active. I’m a coach that wants to be there with the players … But I’m not going to sacrifice too much style.”
While it remains unclear when the coach can begin blessing the Major League Soccer touchlines with his outfits again, he and his squad are certainly looking forward to reuniting in person.
“We’re hopeful [of a return],” Gonzalez said. “We want to anticipate that at any moment, we can start training at the facility again.”
As Texas, similar to a number of other states, will begin to take first steps to reopen, Gonzalez and his squad will make sure safety is still at the forefront of their actions.
“It’ll be great to have the guys working at our facility in a safe environment soon,” he said. “But we need to learn more about this before it is approved … Everybody wants to take the right precautions.”
Whether or not training could resume as normal, Gonzalez knows the players are anxious to see each other on the field again.
“They want to know that they can be pushed by a coach or staff member,” Gonzalez said. “Seeing a teammate on the other side of the field running is motivation. It stimulates them.”
Before the interview concluded, Gonzalez was asked about his soccer jersey collection.
“I am a U.S. soccer fan and a Peru soccer fan. That’s my family heritage,” Gonzalez said. “Those are my two favorite jerseys.”
