FRISCO, Texas (Thursday, June 25) – FC Dallas has signed midfielder Mauro Diaz, defender Moises Hernandez and forward Tesho Akindele to new, multi-year contracts, the club announced today. Per league and team policy, terms of the agreements will not be disclosed.
Diaz and Hernandez, along with midfielder Fabian Castillo, who also signed a new contract with the club earlier this season, will remain with FC Dallas throughout the 2019 campaign. The 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year, Akindele agreed to terms with FC Dallas through the 2018 season.
Diaz, 24, recently surpassed his MLS career high in minutes played (966). He ranks second in team assists (4) this season. Diaz has scored eight goals and nine assists since signing with FC Dallas on July 17, 2013.
Hernandez, 23, has appeared in 12 matches for a total of 945 minutes this season. His first career assist was a game-winner, which came in the opening match of the 2015 season versus San Jose. Hernandez scored a second assist in a 3-2 win against Toronto FC on April 18. He has also appeared in four matches for the Guatemalan National Team in 2015.
Akindele, 23, has scored 10 goals and four assists in 40 appearances since being drafted sixth overall by FC Dallas in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. He became the youngest FC Dallas player to score a hat trick when he scored three times in a 5-0 win in San Jose on Aug. 16, 2014. Akindele earned his first cap with the Canadian National Team on June 11, 2015. He was named to Canada’s roster for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup on June 22, 2015.
