FRISCO - It hasn’t taken long for FC Dallas’ newest signing to gel with his new teammates.
Officially signed on loan by the club on Monday, 25-year-old defender Aubrey David is joining his fourth club in the last three years, but hopes to have found a more permanent home.
“The guys have been great. They have treated me well so far,” the Trinidad and Tobago international said on Wednesday as he put on the Dallas jersey for the first time. “There are good vibes in the team and it's something that I like and I think it'll make me be comfortable [here] as soon as possible.”
As a primary right back that can also play on the left side, David is an attacking-minded outside back that says he loves to get forward into the final third. For the FCD technical staff, his sheer athleticism is something to be excited about in Oscar Pareja’s system.
“We're not surprised about his technique and the ability to combine,” Pareja said. “At this point we're trying to acclimate him into our ideas tactically and the basic fundamentals that we have. That will help him execute what he's good at soccer-wise. It's going to take time, but Aubrey is doing a great job so far.”
David has been in Frisco for a full week now, and has had the opportunity to take in two games from the stands – an Open Cup win over Colorado and July 4th shellacking of Orlando City. So far he likes what he sees from his new side, especially the versatility that Pareja’s players show in any given position.
“I must say I'm impressed,” he said. “I'm very impressed at the football, the fitness level and the finishing is amazing, so I think I'm just going to try and fit in and get on board with the guys and hopefully we can win.”
And with a fellow right back from the Caribbean on the roster in Atiba Harris, the Trinidad and Tobago native feels right at home with his new club.
“I think that's my best friend,” David said laughing. “He's a good guy. Since I've come, he's shown me around, he let me know what's going on, the rules and this stuff and he's been great.”
