22-year-old goalkeeper currently leads MLS with a 0.55 goals against average
FRISCO – FC Dallas has re-signed Homegrown goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez through 2020 with an option for the 2021 season, the club announced today.
A member of the Mexican U-18, U-20 and U-23 National Team, Gonzalez currently leads Major League Soccer with a 0.55 goals against average. The 6’4” goalkeeper equaled his career-high in shutouts last match, stopping both shots he faced, to record his fifth clean sheet in nine games this season. Gonzalez has redirected 21 of the 27 shots he has faced this season, helping FC Dallas to a 3-1-5 record in matches he started.
Gonzalez was signed as FC Dallas’ 10th Homegrown player on March 21, 2013. At the age of 20, he became the youngest goalkeeper in franchise history to start a game on Aug. 22, 2015. That same year, Gonzalez stopped two of five penalty kicks to lead FC Dallas to the 2015 Western Conference Final.
Gonzalez made his first appearance with the FC Dallas Development Academy’s U-16 team on Sept. 26, 2010. Since, the FC Dallas Academy had an 18-8-6 record in matches in which Gonzalez has appeared. Between stints with FC Dallas’ U-16 and U-18 Development Academy teams, the goalkeeper has logged 2,145 minutes, collected five shutouts and allowed just 1.16 goals per 90 minutes played.
