FRISCO, Texas - The FC Dallas Girls Academy won its second Dallas Cup title of the day as the U-19 team defeated DKSC 1-0 in the U-19 Dallas Cup Girls' Invitational Final thanks to Piper Hemperly's first-half goal at Toyota Stadium Friday afternoon.
Hemperly had an early chance when a loose ball fell to her on the edge of the box but her first-time shot was blocked by two DKSC defenders and out for a corner. Defender Eleanor Hays nearly scored a memorable goal when her free kick from 40-yards dipped under the crossbar but DKSC goalkeeper Erica Defferding was able to tip it over.
Dallas found the opener through Piper Hemperly who picked up the ball on the edge of the box before splitting two defenders with a shot that found the top right corner. In search of a response, DKSC increased their pressure and began swinging in crosses but FCD goalkeeper Olivia Ramey was up to the challenge. Alexis Lee was inches away from doubling Dallas’ lead right before the break with an attempt from 25 yards that clipped the top of the crossbar.
DKSC started the second half on the front foot and nearly found an equalizer from Storie Sexton but her shot was saved by Ramey. Dallas responded and thought they had a second goal but Rachel Buckle’s shot was cleared off the line by DKSC’s Molly McDougal. FCD came close again through Kaydence Ramirez who forced a fingertip save from Defferding in goal. Dallas continued to pile on pressure Lee came close to scoring once again, this time striking the post with a first-time shot from the edge of the box.
DKSC had one final chance for an equalizer in added time with a free kick from just outside the box but Samantha Courtwright's shot went wide of the goal and the referee blew for full time.
The U-19’s triumph was the FC Dallas Girls Academy’s second trophy of the day as the U-15 side defeated Solar Soccer Club 3-0 earlier in this morning thanks to a hat trick from Holly Storer. More on the U-15s title win HERE.
