The FC Dallas Player Development system continues to provide college programs around the country with players that have refined their skills through the FC Dallas Youth program. The FCD College Round-up is our bi-weekly series that will keep track of a select number of former FCDY players and monitor their progress through the college soccer ranks.
Baylor University (19-1-5) – Natalie Huggins (Sophomore Forward)
Baylor's season came to an end in the third round of the NCAA Championship tournament. The Bears beat Arizona State 3-1 in the first round before edging out Georgetown with a 2-1 overtime win in the second round. Baylor went on to play North Carolina to a 1-1 draw before falling in penalty kicks 4-2. Huggins didn't see any playing time in Baylor's final three matches of 2012.
Florida Gulf Coast University (11-5-3) – Aaron Guillen (Freshman Defender)
Florida Gulf Coast University claimed the 2012 Atlantic Sun Championship by beating Liscomb 2-1 in double overtime and Mercer 1-0 in overtime. The Eagles played USF to a scoreless draw in the first round of the NCAA Championship tournament and were eliminated in penalty kicks 5-3. Guillen started all three of FGCU's final matches of 2012.
Hardin-Simmons University (18-1-2) – Eliza Keegan (Sophomore Forward)
Hardin-Simmons University kicked off the NCAA Division III Championship tournament with a 1-0 win over Chapman. The Cowgirls the played Trinity to a 2-2 draw in the second round before sqeaking through in PKs 7-6. HSU's season and undefeated streak came to an end at the hands of a 2-1 overtime loss to Wheaton in the third round. Keegan played in each of Hardin-Simmons' final three matches.
Harvard University (3-11-3) – Mark Ashby (Freshman Defender)
Harvard's forgettable 2012 came to an end in the regular season finale, a 3-1 road loss to Penn. Ashby became a regular starter for The Crimson, making the XI in 16 of 17 matches this season.
Old Dominion University (11-3-2) – Skylar Hagan (Sophomore Midfielder)
Old Dominion University didn't make it past the first round of the NCAA Championship tournament. The Monarchs played UMBC to a scoreless draw and were eliminated in penalty kicks 4-2. Hagan started every game for the Monarchs in 2012.
Southern Methodist University (10-5-5) – Chris Figueroa (Sophomore Midfielder), Jaime Ibarra (Junior Goalkeeper)
SMU just got past Kentucky 4-1 in penalty kicks in the Conference USA Championship tournament after playing to a 2-2 draw. The Mustangs then fell to Tulsa in the championship game 5-0. In the first round of the NCAA Championship tournament, SMU tied Winthrop 1-1, but was eliminated in penalty kicks 3-1. Ibarra played every game for the Mustangs while Figueroa didn't seen any action this season.
University of Maryland (20-1-2) – London Woodberry (Senior Defender), Mikey Ambrose (Freshman Defender)
Maryland finished the ACC Tournament with a 2-1 double overtime win over Clemson in the semifinal before besting North Carolina 2-1 in the championship to claim the conference title. After a first round bye in the NCAA Championship tournament, the Terrapins beat Brown 2-1 in the second round, thumped Coastal Carolina 5-1 in the third round, and won 3-1 over Louisville to advance to the tournament semifinals. Ambrose has started all but one match for the Terps this year, tallying an assist in the ACC Championship against UNC. Woodberry has started the last five games for Maryland, scoring the opening goal in last weekend's win over Louisville.
University of New Mexico (17-4-1) – Nick Rochowski (Freshman Defender)
New Mexico advanced to the championship game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament by beating Denver 3-0 in the semifinals before tying Air Force 1-1 and eventually falling in penalty kicks 5-3. The Lobos went on to beat Virginia 3-1 in the NCAA Championship tournament before getting knocked out in the next round by Connecticut after a 2-1 double overtime loss. Rochowski didn't see any minutes for the Lobos this season.
University of North Carolina (16-4-3) – Boyd Okwuonu (Sophomore Defender), Danny Garcia (Freshman Midfielder)
North Carolina advanced to the ACC Tournament championship game after playing Virginia to a scoreless tie and winning in penalty kicks 4-3. UNC fell to Maryland in the final 2-1. The Tar Heels then played UMBC to a scoreless tie in the second round of the NCAA Championship tournament and advanced on PKs 3-2. North Carolina beat Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 in overtime in the next round before getting bounced in the quarterfinals by Indiana 1-0. Garcia and Okwuonu started each of the Tar Heels' final five matches.
University of North Texas (16-4-2) – Michelle Young (Senior Forward)
After winning the Sun Belt Conference Championship, UNT was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Championship tournament after a 2-0 loss to Texas Tech. Young played in every game for the Mean Green this season.
