FRISCO - Call it the lucky seventh win of the season tonight for FC Dallas, but to them there was nothing lucky about it.
It wasn’t that FCD had gotten lucky, but it was the way Dallas created its own to luck en route to a 2-0 win and capture of El Capitán over Houston Dynamo.
In the 33rd minute, Fabian Castillo worked down the left flank and into the box, burning Dynamo defender Raul Rodriguez. As he attempted a pass into the middle, the ball deflected off Houston’s Jermaine Taylor’s front foot and into the back of the net for a 1-0 FCD lead.
“I feel that [it’s] more of the hard work and the sacrifice that [we’ve] been doing,” Castillo said through a translator. “The ball was going to go to David Texeira even if [Taylor] hadn’t touch it, so most likely it was going to end up in the goal anyways.”
Any case of FC Dallas being “lucky” was silenced when Castillo squeezed a shot into the box from a one-two connection with Mauro Diaz in the 42nd minute. The Dallas defense held onto the two-goal lead to score back-to-back home shutouts.
“It’s the beauty of this game we all love. Sometimes you have to be patient and wait for it,” head coach Oscar Pareja said. “The ball bounced in our way. It wasn’t lucky. It was because we worked for it. We have to keep doing it.”
Castillo now leads FC Dallas in goals with six, and the victory pushes FCD into three points behind Western Conference leader Seattle Sounders in the standings. Castillo and his squad now turns their attention to a midweek Lamar Hunt Open Cup battle with Sporting KC before hosting New England Revolution on July 4.
