For a few FC Dallas players, the Gold Cup ends tonight. But, there is still hope for a few other FCD players to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday and Sunday.
Tesho Akindele & Kyle Bekker (Canada)
Akindele, Bekker, and Canada are officially eliminated from advancing after finishing with no wins, one loss, and two draws in Group B action.
Moises Hernandez (Guatemala)
Guatemala plays Cuba tonight at 5 p.m. on Fox Sports 2 and Unimas with hopes of advancing to the next round. Hernandez and Guatemala started off slow with a 3-1 loss to Trinidad & Tobago in Group C. With a mountain to climb to advance, Guatemala turned in a strong defensive performance agaisnt one of the favorites to win the Gold Cup, drawing Mexico 0-0. Their fate rest in their own hands. Win against Cuba, and they will advance to play the winners of Group A, USA, on Saturday. Draw, or lose, and they will have to pack their bags.
Blas Perez (Panama)
Panama finished Group A play with three 1-1 draws, doing just enough to advance to play the winner of Group C on Sunday. The Group C winner will be determined tonight when Mexico plays Trinidad & Tobago at 7:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 2 and Unimas. Perez started all three games for Panama, scoring one goal and assisting on another.
Je-Vaughn Watson (Jamaica)
Jamaica finished first in Group B with wins against Canada and El Salvador, and a draw against Costa Rica. Watson and Jamaica will now play the surprise team of the tournament, Haiti, in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
