FRISCO - The score line read zero for both sides as the referee blew the final whistle on Saturday at Orlando City Stadium, but had it not been for Jesse Gonzalez, it could have been a much different result for FC Dallas.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper had a frantic final 10 minutes of the match. He made four saves in the game, most coming in the dying moments of the match. The Lions bent Gonzalez looking for him to break, but he never would. He will, however, have his battle scars to show for this one.
He used just about every part of his body to keep the ball out of the net on the way to his second clean sheet of week after a 2-0 win against the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday.
That is what we call using your head.
Gonzalez's effort keeps Dallas well within earshot of the playoffs. Depending on Saturday night's results, Dallas sits two points clear of the Houston Dynamo who occupy 7th place in the Western Conference. As of the game's final whistle, FCD sits in 5th with 42 points. With saves like this, could Gonzalez be on his way back into the U.S. National Team picture?
