FRISCO, Texas –Reto Ziegler already knows how he’s going to celebrate his next goal, and he’s hoping he’ll get a chance to do it Sunday against Sporting Kansas City.
“My wife is pregnant, so I’d like to put the ball under my jersey and dedicate the goal to my future baby,” the Swiss defender told the K&C Masterpiece on Friday on KRLD-FM (105.3.)
Ziegler, playing his first season in MLS, has scored four times in 27 games and is FC Dallas’ go-to choice for penalty kicks. It’s a task he relishes.
“I’ll tell you the truth: I’m not nervous at all” when shooting from the spot, he said. “Because I shoot a way that if I miss, it’s because the goalkeeper was better than me. I shoot strong and precise.
“I’m really confident when I’m going there.”
Ziegler said he and his teammates are approaching Sunday’s game – which pits the top two teams in the Western Conference – as a Conference Final: “We want to win that game and go into the playoffs as the No. 1. We are really focused and, I think, ready for that game.”
During the interview, Zielgler also opined on his dream of meeting fellow Swiss national Roger Federer, his wife’s role in his Instagram accountand whether the entire FC Dallas defense belongs in the Hall of Fame.
