Reggie Cannon to represent USMNT in Final Kickoff Series Matches against England, Italy
FRISCO – FC Dallas Homegrown defender Reggie Cannon has been called in to represent the U.S. Men’s National Team during the FIFA International Break running Nov. 12-20.
Cannon was called into his first USMNT in October for the matches against Colombia and Peru. He made his Senior debut against Peru on Oct. 16, playing 84 minutes in the 1-1 draw.
Following the 2018 season, Cannon became the all-time leading Homegrown player in franchise history to play the most minutes in a single season with 2,921 minutes. He scored his first professional goal in a 2-2 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on May 19 and added three assists in 33 matches.
The USMNT will close out their Kickoff Series with matches against 2018 World Cup Semifinalist England on Nov. 15 at Wembley Stadium in London, England and four-time champion Italy on Nov. 20 at Luminus Arena in Genk, Belgium.
Kickoff for the USA-England match is set for 2 PM CT and will be broadcasted on ESPN2. The USA-Italy match will be broadcasted on FS1 starting at 1:45 PM CT. Both matches will be on UniMás.
“These last two matches provide a fantastic set of challenges and experiences, so we’re excited to bring in this group of players for another huge opportunity,” said interim head coach Dave Sarachan. “We continue to build with a core group that has developed throughout the last year, while including some players who we haven’t seen in some time. Overall, this is a great way to end the Kickoff Series and what has been a very productive 2018.”
The 20-year-old made his professional debut on June 14, 2017 in a 2-1 win against Tulsa Roughnecks FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round and collected an assist in a 3-1 win against Colorado Rapids in the USOC Round of 16 on June 27, 2017. Cannon made his MLS debut as an 89th-minute substitute in a draw against the New York Red Bulls on Sept. 2, 2017.
Cannon signed as FC Dallas’ 18th Homegrown player on Dec. 22, 2016 following his freshman season with the UCLA Bruins. He was one of three players and the only freshman to appear and start all 20 matches for the Bruins. He finished the season third on the team in minutes played (1,753) and was named No. 8 on Top Drawer Soccer’s Midseason Top 100 Freshman Ranking as well as a member of their Freshman Best XI team. He has previously represented the U.S. at the U-17 and U-19 levels.
