Cannon started at right wing back in a 3-5-2 formation for the United States, instead of his usual role as a right back in a four-man back line.

Cannon was given a yellow card in the 43rd minute after a tackle near the corner of the 18-yard box.

Playing wing back gave Cannon more space to allow him to use his pace to get up the field. He made a couple of deep runs down the pitch that opened up the attack for the United States.

He was subbed out of the match in the 74th minute when the score was 0-0. Italy scored the game-winning goal four minutes into stoppage time.

In two games with the USMNT, Cannon has been on the field for 158 minutes. In those 158 minutes, the team has given up zero goals. In the 22 minutes he has not been on the field, the USMNT has given up two goals.
