FRISCO, Texas (Thursday, Jan. 7) – FC Dallas Homegrown player Jesse Gonzalez was called in yesterday by Mexican U-23 head coach Raúl Gutiérrez for a Mexico City-based camp which begins on Sunday, Jan. 10.
Gonzalez, 20, joins former FC Dallas goalkeeper Richard Sanchez on the initial roster aiming to defend Mexico’s gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics.
Mexico qualified for the 2016 Olympic tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as one of two representatives from CONCACAF. El Tri won Group B in the October tournament. Mexico then topped Canada and Honduras by identical, 2-0 scores in the semifinal and final, to earn the region’s top seed in the Olympics.
