FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 1, 2022) – FC Dallas announced its 2022 season award winners today which were selected by the club’s technical staff.
Defensive Player of the Year – José Martínez
Offensive Player of the Year – Jesús Ferreira
Young Player of the Year – Jesús Ferreira
Defensive Player of the Year – José Martínez
After conceding the most goals (56) in the Western Conference in 2021, José Martínez helped co-anchor the best backline in the Western Conference in 2022 that only conceded 37 goals in 34 games. Martínez contributed to the eight FC Dallas shutouts and averaged 4.35 clearances per game. He led the team in clearances (135), interceptions (37) and was second in blocks (15). FC Dallas went 13-7-11 in matches that Martínez started. Martínez’s improvement this season earns him the FC Dallas Defensive Player of the Year award.
Offensive Player of the Year – Jesús Ferreira
Homegrown Jesús Ferreira is this year’s FC Dallas Offensive Player of the Year. Ferreira scored a career-high 18 goals in 33 regular season appearances, tying the club’s single-season record also held by Kenny Cooper (18 in 2008) and Jason Kreis (18 in 1999). His 18 goals included his first MLS career hat trick and six game-winning goals. He also led the team with five multi-goal games. Overall, Ferreira contributed to a total of 24 goals during the 2022 season with 18 goals and six assists.
Young Player of the Year – Jesús Ferreira
Ferreira continues to add to his cabinet of awards with the FC Dallas Young Player of the Year award. The 2022 MLS Young Player of the Year also earns the team award after having his best season yet. He earned the starting role as FC Dallas’ No. 9 and became an important player for both club and country. His 18 goals for FC Dallas are the most by an FC Dallas player 22 years old or younger in club history. Ferreira also became the second player in MLS history to reach 30 career goals and 20 assists at the age of 21 or younger. He is now tied third overall in goals scored for FC Dallas with 36 goals in 114 matches.

FC Dallas fans will be able to vote on the remaining FC Dallas postseason awards on the official FC Dallas Twitter account starting on November 2. Awards include Goal of the Year, Assist of the Year and Save of the Year as well as Best Dressed Player, Best Celebration of the Year, Best Player Social Post of the Year and Best Game of the Year.
