FRISCO - U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann submitted his 40-player preliminary roster for the upcoming 2016 Copa America Centenario tournament which includes a name that FC Dallas fans will recognize.
Homegrown midfielder Kellyn Acosta will get a chance to train with the Senior Team in the coming weeks in hopes of earning a spot for the final 23-man squad that will play in the tournament this summer. This won't be the first time the 20-year-old has seen action with the senior squad. Acosta made his USMNT debut during a 3-2 win over Iceland in a friendly this past January where he started at left back, and then played again in February in a friendly against Canada.
The homegrown player most recently played with the U.S. U-23 squad during the 2016 Olympic qualifiers where the team played two games against Colombia and fell short of qualifying for the Summer Olympics.
The USMNT will begin training camp May 16 in Miami and then the players named in the final 23-player roster will play three preparation friendlies starting with Puerto Rico on May 22. The team will then face Ecuador on May 25 at Toyota Stadium, in a match that could also feature FCD midfielder Carlos Gruezo. They will play their final friendly against Bolivia on May 28.
The men's team will begin their 2016 Copa America campaign when they go up against Colombia on June 3.
