FRISCO, Texas - Head coach Luchi Gonzalez shifts to a 4-1-4-1 formation as FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo FC contest the second Texas Derby of the season at 7:30PM at BBVA Stadium. Here's the lineup notes, pres. by UnitedHealthcare.
Vargas Starts
Freddy Vargas lines up at right wing for his first FCD start since May. The Venezuelan started six of Dallas’ first eight games but has mainly been used a second-half substitute of late. It’s Vargas’ 10th appearance of the season as he comes in for Jáder Obrian who moves to the bench.
Bressan Keeps his Place
Bressan gets his second-consecutive start after sitting out last Saturday's game due to a yellow card accumulation suspension. The veteran has been a mainstay for Dallas this season, starting all but three games so far in 2021. Once again, Bressan partners second-year defender Nkosi Tafari who in central defense.
Formation Shift
FC Dallas shifts to a 4-1-4-1 formation instead of the 4-2-3-1 that Luchi Gonzalez has favored in recent games. The change sees Bryan Acosta moves further forward to partner Jesús Ferreira in central midfield, leaving Edwin Cerrillo as the lone defensive midfielder. Acosta’s slight position change allows him to press Houston’s midfield higher up the field but also puts more responsibility on Cerrillo to protect FCD’s backline if Houston is able to break that press.
