MAILBAG: Reggie Cannon, Cariaco Gonzalez, Atiba Harris and What's Happening with FC Dallas

FRISCO - The Mailbag is bursting at the seams with questions this week about what exactly is happening with FC Dallas, but only time to get to a few questions. Let’s dive right in.

“Thoughts on Reggie Cannon?” - Wolfgang Wolf

I’m an unabashed champion of the greatness that eventually be Reggie Cannon as FCD’s starting right back. We’ve seen glimpses in Open Cup play and he’s put his name in Oscar Pareja’s mind as someone who is ready, but we’ll have to wait and see when exactly that is. At the end of the day, he’s just 19 though and if anyone can step into that role right away, it’s him, but it’s a big ask of any player. There’s no doubt in my mind that Cannon will be the go-to guy at some point in the coming years.

“Will we see more of Cariaco next game?” - Dan Graham

Dan, I think so. With a team looking for answers on both ends of the ball, and given the fact that Tesho Akindele is on international duty, I believe we see at the very least a much earlier Cariaco substitution. If Pareja decides to roll with the 4-1-4-1 again, he could even draw a start. We’ll have to see how the week plays out.

“Why does Atiba start?” - Hue J.

I see a lot of frustration from fans with Atiba Harris, not just recently, but let’s look at the simple fact that over the last three months the veteran has played every single position on the back line and has been moved around more than any other player. Obviously I think you’d rather have Maynor Figueroa, your starting left back over the last two years, playing in that position, but that wasn’t possible this weekend. Harris is filling in for holes due to injury, international absences or what have you, and he’s doing so all over the place, not just one spot. That’s no easy task at all. I’d venture to say this team would be in a lot worst shape if not for the work of Atiba over the last few months.
