Recap 8/12 Colorado

FC Dallas travels to Kansas City next week to take on third-place Sporting KC

  • FC Dallas fires a season-high 28 shots on goal.
  • FC Dallas defense picks up his sixth shutout of the season.

FRISCO â€“ FC Dallas fired 28 shots towards goal but was not able to break through against the Colorado defense, drawing the Rapids, 0-0, tonight at Toyota Stadium.

First Half Notes:

6' – Kellyn Acosta cut to the inside of the field and cracked a hard shot through a crowd of players towards the near post. U.S. National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard was in excellent position to make a save but needed an extra few touches to corral the well-struck attempt.

22' â€“ Acosta won the ball back for Dallas in the middle of the field and pushed the ball forward for Michael Barrios on the left side. Barrios cut back towards the middle of the field and hammered a shot towards the near post. Once again, Howard was in position to make a save, but the goalkeeper’s second of the game required a long, diving save to his right side to keep the match level, 0-0.

24' â€“ Barrios and Acosta combine again to produce a first-touch blast from 25 yards out. Howard would not have been able to get to the shot but the ball whizzed a few inches past the far post.

45+2' – In stoppage-time of the first half, FC Dallas’ Maxi Urruti appeared to have scored his 12th goal of the season after Cristian Colman ran at four defenders, pulled up near the top of the area, and laid the ball off for Maxi Urruti. Urruti finished, just inside the post to Howard’s left side, but referee Alan Kelly disallowed the goal after video review. Kelly ruled that FC Dallas committed a foul when winning back possession in its defensive third of the field.

Second Half Notes:

54' â€“ Roland Lamah got in-behind the Colorado back line with a well-timed run. The Belgian pulled up near the end line, off to the left side of the field and delivered a perfect pass to Acosta at the top of the area. The Plano-native struck the ball well with his first touch, forcing Howard to make another outstanding save, high to his right side.

61' â€“ Colorado’s second-half substitute Kortne Ford kept the match level by making a sliding save on a shot by Barrios. The Colombian winger had sped down Dallas’ left flank and turned a defender inside-out before trying to pick out the far post behind Howard.

74' â€“ Urruti won the ball back for Dallas and slid an excellent pass outside for Dallas’ second-half substitute Tesho Akindele. The Colorado School of Mines product teed up an attempt but pushed it wide of the near post without troubling Howard.

82' â€“ Lightning strikes in the area forced the match to be temporarily suspended at 8:53 PM. The match resumed at 10:21, a span of one hour and 28 minutes.

84' â€“ FC Dallas charged out following the long delay and had Colorado under pressure immediately. Atiba Harris nearly put away a goal after Hernan Grana lofted a pass across the box to the back post. Unfortunately for Dallas, Harris was not able to keep his header on frame.

90'+ - Barrios played Urruti into the area and the striker pounded a shot on goal but, once again, Howard fought off the attempt, his sixth save of the game.
