FRISCO, Texas
– FC Dallas dropped a 4-0 decision to Vancouver Whitecaps FC tonight at Toyota Stadium.
FC Dallas fell behind, 1-0, in the 18th minute when Bernie Ibini accepted a pass from Fredy Montero on the right flank, and cut inside. Near the top of the area, Ibini fired a shot that clipped defender
Victor Ulloa
and crossed up FC Dallas goalkeeper
Jesse Gonzalez,
slipping underneath the right arm of the goalkeeper to give the visitors the lead.
Roland Lamah
looked as if he tied the match 1-1 in the 40
th
minute but linesman Jonathan Johnson ruled the forward was in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.
Ryan Hollingshead
battled to win the ball back in Vancouver’s defensive third of the pitch in the 43
rd
minute. The FCD left back turned and curled in a cross in to
Mauro Diaz.
The No. 10 spun his defender but was unable to get his shot past Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted.
Referee Baldomero Toledo awarded Vancouver a penalty kick in the 49
th
minute, after FC Dallas midfielder
Kellyn Acosta
cleared the ball out of the area following a header by center back
Walker Zimmerman.
Vancouver’s Fredy Montero collided with the U.S. international a split second after Acosta cleared the ball and Toledo pointed to the spot. Montero converted the penalty kick, sending Gonzalez to his right side before knocking a pass just inside the left post.
FC Dallas midfielder
Carlos Gruezo
was shown a red card in the 59
th
minute after coming together along Dallas’ right flank with Vancouver’s Yordy Reyna. FC Dallas was forced to play a man down for the final 31 minutes of the match.
Vancouver took a 3-0 lead in the 67
th
minute when Fredy Montero came free on the left side of the area following a build-up between Tony Tchani and Matías Laba. The striker put away his second of the game, curling a shot around Gonzalez and into the back of the net.
Vancouver scored its fourth of the game off a throw-in on its right side in the 83
rd
minute. The quick throw was chested up in the air by Nicolas Mezquida. Close to the far post, the Uruguayan leapt into the air and bicycle-kicked a shot between the near post and through the legs of Gonzalez.
