MINNEAPOLIS – FC Dallas dropped a 4-1 decision to Minnesota United FC in its first visit to TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday night.
First Half Notes:
8’ – With FC Dallas pressuring early and often, Hernan Grana stepped in to win a loose ball following a cross and earned a free kick for FC Dallas at the top of the area. Maynor Figueroa took the kick, firing a hard shot toward goal. The attempt was blocked away and the rebound try by Michael Barrios sailed well over the crossbar.
9’ - Barrios beat his man down the right flank and centered a pass for Cristian Colman. The ball was cleared off the line, to the top of the box, where Maxi Urruti hammered home a beautiful volley. Unfortunately for FCD, the goal was called back due to an offside call.
14’ – Barrios roasted his man down the right side again, this time picking out a perfect pass for Tesho Akindele. The Canadian International struck the pass into the top corner of the net from close range for his fourth goal of the season. The assist was Barrios’ 14th of the season, helping FCD take a 1-0 lead.
24’ – Christian Ramirez pulled the Loons level, 1-1, after accepting a pass from Kevin Molino. The pass was just outside the reach of FC Dallas center back Walker Zimmerman and it put Ramirez in on goal alone against Jesse Gonzalez. Ramirez feinted right before beating the goalkeeper with a shot just inside the left post.
35’ – Minnesota’s Ramirez made FC Dallas pay again in the 35th minute. The forward elevated a pass from Ibson with his first touch, playing a ball over the defense to Miguel Ibarra. The Loon’s No. 10 caught the ball in stride, beating Gonzalez to his left side to give the home team a 2-1 lead.
Second Half Notes:
52’ – A half-blocked shot from the top of the area by Minnesota’s Francisco Clavo beats Gonzalez, but skips off the outside of the post to the FC Dallas goalkeeper’s left side.
55’ – FCD’s Colman burns by his marker on the right flank and heads towards goal. In alone against Bobby Shuttleworth, Colman tries to meg the ‘keeper. Shuttleworth gets down in time to deflect the shot out of play with his right knee.
67’ – Tesho and second-half substitute, Mauro Diaz combined with a long one-two pass to give FC Dallas a penalty kick attempt in the 67thminute. Diaz went low to the goalkeeper’s left side but Shuttleworth got down to make the save, preserving the 2-1 lead with 23 minutes left to go.
71’ – A beautiful passing combination between Ramirez and Collin Martin at the top right corner of the area put Ethan Finlay in on goal against Gonzalez. The Minnesota-native picked out the far corner of the net and slipped a shot under Gonzalez to make it 3-1.
81’ – Tesho was shown a straight red card in the 81st minute after combining with Diaz for the second time. The forward was in a foot race against Shuttleworth and arrived a second late, catching the goalkeeper in a vulnerable position with his sliding attempt to put a shot on goal. Dallas was forced to play a man down for the final nine minutes of the match.
