Match Recap: FC Dallas falls 2-1 to San Antonio Scorpions in final 2015 preseason match

San Antonio FCD 2015

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Saturday, Feb. 28) – FC Dallas lost its final match of the 2015 preseason, 2-1, to the defending North American Soccer League Champion San Antonio Scorpions, tonight at Toyota Field.

After a bad tackle took 2015 draft pick, Jaineil Hoilett out of the match in the 15th minute, FC Dallas nearly found the back of the net on a corner kick taken by Michel. The dead-ball specialist fired a bending ball across the top of the six-yard box and Juan Toja narrowly missed putting away an attempted header at the far post.]

Toja was active again in the 34th minute, when David Texeira intercepted a pass in FC Dallas’ offensive third of the field and quickly moved the ball to the Colombian. Toja took the pass, moved to his right and fired a line-drive shot that whizzed past the near post behind San Antonio goalkeeper Daryl Sattler.

Tesho Akindele pressured a Scorpions defender into turning the ball over to Danny Garcia in the 53rd minute. The crafty Homegrown player attempted to go around the last defender at the top of the box but instead earned a foul. Michel stepped to the ensuring free kick and whistled a left-footed blast through the wall, but just wide of the far post.

FC Dallas Academy’s Aaron Meyer got the ball back for the visitors in the 67th minute and quickly found the feet of Akindele. The 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year took a look inside the area for options before firing a low and hard shot to the near post, but Sattler was alert and made an easy save.

San Antonio took a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute when a Scorpions’ counter attack orchestrated by Cesar Elizondo caught the FC Dallas back line off guard. Elizondo took the ball to the top right corner of the area before slipping a pass in on the ground to Cristian Palomeque. The midfielder timed his run well and knocked a simple shot low into the corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Another counter attacked cemented the result for San Antonio in the 88th minute. Billy Forbes did most of the work down the left flank before centering a pass for Elizondo. San Antonio’s No. 10 finished off the chance to make it a two-goal game with two minutes remaining.

FC Dallas was able to cut the lead in half in the 89th minute, when Michel sent a free kick from the left sideline into the area. Sattler came off his line to challenge for the ball, but could not gain control and FC Dallas Academy’s Santiago Augdelo slipped in and finished off the chance to make it a 2-1 final.
