FRISCO, TX (Tuesday, July 23)- The FC Dallas Reserves defeated USL Pro's Antigua Barracuda FC, 3-1, in MLS Reserve vs. USL Pro League competition Tuesday night at FC Dallas Stadium.
Ramon Nunez impressed for FC Dallas scoring both goals in a dominant first half for FCD. The first goal was in the fourth minute when the ball went right through goalkeeper Corey Whisenhunt’s hands on a play the 'keeper will want to have back. Nunez grabbed his brace in the 25th minute as he curled a pass from Fabian Castillo into the far corner from the top of the box.
As the first half went on, the USL Pro side certainly had their chances on FCD goalkeeper Chris Seitz. Both Orlando Mitchum and Tamorley Thomas tested the FCD keeper with breakaway opportunities, but the Dallas man was up to the task stopping each shot.
The second half opened with continuous possessions by the FCD Reserves. They made that possession count in the 60th minute as a free kick, earned by Nunez, was floated in by the Dallas-native to Stephen Keel at the far post. The center back sent the ball across the box to Ulloa who easily drove home a shot from close range to put Dallas up 3-0.
Antigua spoiled the shutout late in the match as Thomas, on one of his many breakaways, finally finished one tapping a shot past the onrushing Seitz to seal the 3-1 scoreline. It was just the ninth goal for Antigua in 21 games this season.
The 3-1 victory is the first of the season for the FCD Reserves who now look forward to Saturday's friendly against EPL side Stoke City FC. The next official Reserve League match for FCD takes place Monday, July 29 against New York Red Bulls at 10AM on Field 1 at the FC Dallas Stadium Complex.
