KANSAS CITY, Kansas – FC Dallas (9-6-8, 35 points) dropped their first MLS match to Sporting Kansas City (10-5-10, 40 points) since June 2016 on Saturday night, 2-0 at Children’s Mercy Park.
First Half
9’ - Dallas forward Cristian Colman got the game’s first shot on goal as Maxi Urruti played a long ball through to the striker from midfield. Colman beat SKC defender Matt Besler to the ball and fired a low-angle shot from just before the end line that Tim Melia got just enough of to stop.
37’ - Urruti would get a chance of his own as Michael Barrios played a ball into the box that the Argentine connected on, but his first-touch shot went just wide.
42’ - Sporting KC would open the scoring as Diego Rubio snuck into the box off a corner kick unmarked and delivered a volley from Graham Zusi’s service into the top corner of goal.
45’ - Jesse Gonzalez would keep it a one-goal game heading into halftime with a leaping save to push a Cristian Lobato curling shot from outside the top, right corner of the 18 over the bar.
Second Half
50’ - Gonzalez would be tested again early in the second half as Daniel Salloi tried a shot from 25 yards out through traffic that the FCD Homegrown pushed wide of goal with a diving save.
57’ - Barrios would again create a chance for Dallas, sending a cross into the box for an on-coming Cristian Colman, who’s glancing header from the penalty spot just missed to the left of goal.
74’ - Kellyn Acosta played a ball through to the box for Tesho Akindele, who made a run behind three SKC defenders. Akindele brought the ball down just inside the 18, but couldn’t get a clean touch before Jimmy Medranda knocked the chance away from danger.
90’ - Urruti would get his fourth shot of the night from distance on a chance Melia could not handle cleanly. Walker Zimmerman attempted to put the rebound back over the sprawled goalkeeper, but missed just high.
90+2’ - Gerso Fernandes would put the match away from the top of the area, peeling back off the rush and sending a curling shot far side past Jesse Gonzalez.
