FRISCO - For the 13th time at a Gold Cup, the United States has progressed to the semifinals.
A 2-0 victory against El Salvador in Philadelphia allowed the U.S. to advance, and a pair of FC Dallas players helped the Americans achieve the win.
Matt Hedges picked up his second start and second appearance at this Gold Cup, going the full 90 minutes at center back for Bruce Arena. Hedges picked up his fifth cap overall on Wednesday night.
Kellyn Acosta made a substitute appearance for the U.S. in the win, entering the match in the 71st minute as a replacement for midfielder Gyasi Zardes. Like Hedges, it was the first time Acosta played for the U.S. since the win against Martinique in the group stage of the competition.
Acosta is now into double-figure international appearances, receiving his 12th cap with the U.S. National Team.
It was also a significant match for goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez, who enjoyed his first game as a part of the U.S. National Team. After being added to the U.S. squad after the group stage by Arena, Gonzalez joined the U.S. and was named to the 18-man roster for the El Salvador match.
Gonzalez was not used as Tim Howard started and made two saves.
All three FC Dallas players will be back with the club for the July 29th home match against Vancouver Whitecaps.
