FRISCO – Maxi Urruti and Santiago Mosquera have become quite familiar with each other as of late since Mosquera arrived from Colombia as FC Dallas’ new Designated Player.
In eight games played and four started, Mosquera has contributed a goal and an assist now in back-to-back weeks. He has started in the three consecutive games as he is gaining rhythm after adjusting to MLS in a short period of time.
"Santi is adapting to the league. He understands it more: what is the rhythm and what it takes to play Major League Soccer, which is very demanding league in many areas," head coach Oscar Pareja said after the match. "Santi is understanding it and with the help of his teammates and his work, I think he’s going to keep that progression."
Mosquera’s most lethal partner to pair with so far seems like Maxi Urruti. After playing two straight games together, Mosquera scored off an assist from Urruti last week in New York and Urruti scored today versus LAFC from Mosquera’s assist.
Despite Pareja changing the formation fluidly during games this season, the duo seems to be connecting no matter if Mosquera is being deployed as a second striker or on the wing.
“The last game I got to assist Santi, like he did for me today,” said Urruti. “The connection between teammates is very important and we know that whoever gets to be there needs to give 100%, that’s what we are trying to do every day.”
Urruti who has been in and out of the starting lineup lately is making his case for a consistent starting spot after scoring his third goal of the season today. After receiving Mosquera’s pass and spinning Laurent Ciman, LAFC center back, Urruti managed to rip a shot from outside the box and put it past Tyler Miller.
“Communication is always important with my teammates. I have a lot of faith in Maxi when he shoots from distance,” said Mosquera. “Thank God he read the play well, read the pass well, and had good control and was able to shoot on goal and thanks to God we were able to equalize.”
Mosquera and Urruti might be seeing more time on the pitch together in the future as Santiago Mosquera has a lot of faith in his Argentinian partner up top.
