FRISCO - In just over two years, he’s gone from an unknown to one of the most productive wingers in MLS. Michael Barrios hopes that growth trend continues over the course of the next two-plus seasons with his new contract.
“I am very happy to know that the club is happy with the work that I am giving the team,” the newly-signed winger said.
After joining the club in early 2015, Barrios improved in every statistical category in his sophomore campaign, tying for the team goal scoring lead with nine tallies. At the halfway point of 2017, he has more than doubled his chances created at goal in comparison to his first two seasons combined. The goal scoring threat has opened up a new facet of his game, already collecting seven of his league-leading 10 assists this year since the start of June.
“Here in the league it is not easy to create options of goal, to score a goal…I think that contributing more goals is what I want and to continue to improve,” the Colombian said. "With all the contribution I make in each of the positions that the coach has given me. More than anything I want to thank God for having this beautiful opportunity which the club has given me.”
An often quiet, but always smiling and joking presence among the FCD locker room, Barrios is comfortable calling Dallas home, and with his new contract through the 2019 season with club options for 2020 and 2021, he’s happy to be here for the long haul.
“More than a home, I think they are my second family right now. I know that my immediate family is in Colombia. The main one, the one that alway supports me, but I think that the club, FC Dallas gave me a lot in all this time that I have been here. I think that they have given me the opportunity to continue with them a few more years so I hope to bring them many joys and give them back everything they have done for me.”
