Michael Barrios has obtained his U.S. permanent resident card (informally known as a green card) and therefore will not count towards one of FCD’s eight international roster spots. It also omits him from international player limitations surrounding Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, where teams are only allowed to dress five international players per match.
The Colombian winger has 19 goals and 19 assists in 98 regular season matches since joining Dallas in February 2015.
Opening one international roster position now gives FCD the freedom to add one of their 2018 SuperDraft first-round picks, Francis Atuahene or Ema Twumasi, to their MLS roster should they choose to do so. Both are still officially on loan with USL affiliate OKC Energy FC, but have each been dealing with minor injuries after early-season appearances on loan. Atuahene led OKC to a season-opening win on March 17 in his loan appearance. Twumasi has made five appearances with two starts for Energy FC.
