If you don't follow Paul Carr on Twitter, well you're missing out. One of the best soccer statisticians around, Carr drops MLS knowledge bombs on an hourly basis and last week he had a pretty interesting note.
FC Dallas will look to earn an MLS-record sixth regular season-opening win in a row at LA on Saturday afternoon. Now, this record does come with a tiny bit of an asterisk as Dallas has actually hosted nine straight season openers dating back to 2008. However, this year with the renovations to the west side of Toyota Stadium, FCD will be on the road for the first two weeks of the season meaning Saturday's match will be their toughest season opener in quite a while. Let's take a look back at the five-game winning streak.
March 11, 2012 - FC Dallas 2, New York Red Bulls 1
Now this was a marquee matchup. Newly-signed Blas Perez and FC Dallas hosted the very first MLS game on the NBC Sports Network against Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls.
It was FC Dallas who would take the lead through an unlikely source with Zach Loyd up from right back giving Dallas the lead while Ricardo Villar doubled the advantage in the second half. Kenny Cooper scored late on a wonderful feed from Henry, but FCD held on for three points to start the streak.
March 2, 2013 - FC Dallas 1 Colorado Rapids 0
The Steward Ceus match.
This one was largely forgettable but for one horrible, awful mistake from Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Steward Ceus allowing Jackson in for the only goal of the match.
Three points is three points, however, and you'll always take it on opening night.
March 8, 2014 - FC Dallas 3, Montreal Impact 2
The first match of the Oscar Pareja era was a memorable one for FC Dallas.
Goals for Fabian Castillo, Blas Perez and Mauro Diaz saw Dallas take three points in a thrilling, cold encounter at Toyota Stadium. FCD has rarely lost a match at Fortress Frisco under Oscar Pareja.
March 7, 2015 - FC Dallas 1, San Jose 0
A stoppage-time winner on opening night? It doesn't get much better than that.
FC Dallas was frustrated all night by the Earthquakes, but with just seconds left on the clock Homegrown Moises Hernandez let fly from outside the box and who else but Blas Perez was there to deflect the shot into the net sparking wild celebrations at Toyota Stadium. This one will give you chills.
March 6, 2016 - FC Dallas 2, Philadelphia Union 0
Row your boat.
This one will be remembered for that fun celebration after Fabian Castillo opened the season with a goal. Mauro Diaz and Maxi Urruti combined for a second in what started a memorable and historic season for FC Dallas.
