While the first team was taking three points at home on Saturday night, 2016 SuperDraft pick Colin Bonner was busy punching USL-affiliate OKC Energy FC's ticket to the next round of the USL Playoffs.
With OKC trailing to Rio Grande Valley (the Houston Dynamo's affiliate) 2-1 as the clock hit the 90th minute, Bonner - a 70th minute sub for Energy FC - paid the price to level the match at 2-2 off a long throw in from defender Michael Harris - going up to win a header in the box and putting the ball past RGV goalkeeper coming out to punch it away.
Then, just moments later in stoppage time, it was Bonner again, this time diving in front of his marking defender to head home a corner to give Energy FC the 3-2 lead, which they would hold onto to upset RGV and advance as the No. 7 seed in the West.
FC Dallas' Timo Pitter also played in Saturday's match, coming on in the 58th minute for Daniel Gonzalez.
Next up for the Energy is a meeting with Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Saturday afternoon in British Colombia with a spot in the Western Conference Final on the line. You can catch that match live on YouTube at 2 pm CT.
