FRISCO, Texas — After spending a few weeks in France for the 2019 Toulon Tournament, FC Dallas midfielder Pablo Aránguiz returns with one assist in four games and even more Chilean international experience under his belt.
"Well, it was a really nice experience," Aránguiz said. "I think we came away with good results. It was a group that hadn't been working together that long and I think we did a good job. It was a great experience, we got positive results and that's what you want to work with in regards to the upcoming [national team] cycle."
Aránguiz traveled with the Chile U-23 team for the toulon Tournament where it won three games and lost one en route to a 7th place finish amongst 12 different teams. Aranguiz had one goal against the England U-20 team and one assist in Chile's opener against the Portugal U-19s.
"I'm always happy to contribute," Aránguiz said. "A player like me, in my position, needs to get goals and assists so I'm happy for that, happy for what we achieved, happy for the team and for what I did personally too."
Aránguiz was able to play consistent minutes with Chile throughout the tournament, and besides the overall cultural aspect of the trip, he said that was his favorite part of the whole experience.
"Obviously, to be able to play," Aránguiz said. "Also, spending time with my teammates and the coaching staff. We had some really good moments. Moments of joy when we won three games and there were also moments of sadness when we lost [against Japan] but as a group we took it as a learning experience, an accident, something we shouldn't let happen again. Again, I'm just happy for what we accomplished."
