FRISCO — Just one FC Dallas representative was in the Starting XI today for the US U-20's in its quarterfinal match against Ecuador. Paxton Pomykal was once again the captain for Tab Ramos's side, and he played the full 90 in a 2-1 loss.
The US had its chances both in the first and second half, but in the end, there wasn't enough in the tank to make another comeback against a talented Ecuadorian team. Ecuador opened up the scoring in the 30th minute, getting an early lead on the Americans.
Just six minutes later, though, the US would equalize off of a corner kick. The cross went into the box, deflected to the feet of Tim Weah, and the attacker sliced the ball past Ecuador's keeper to level the match at one. Ecuador would strike again on the brink of halftime in the 43rd minute in what would be the game-winning goal.
USA's run ended Saturday afternoon, but it means FCD players Edwin Cerrillo and Brandon Servania will join Pomykal in the trio's return to Frisco. FCD has an Open Cup match June 12 against OKC Energy FC, which Cerrillo could possibly be available for, and Pomykal could make his return to the first team the week after.
