SAN JOSE, California (May 28, 2016) – FC Dallas and the San Jose Earthquakes played to a 0-0 draw at Avaya Stadium on Saturday night. Defense ruled the night as both teams combined for just four shots on goal in the goal-less draw.
FC Dallas nearly took the lead in the opening minutes of the first half as Tesho Akindele beat the offside trap and was played in on goal. As Akindele rounded David Bingham, his touch led the ball just past the endline.
Throughout the rest of the first half, neither team was able to craft a good scoring chance with just one combined shot on target.
San Jose’s first solid opportunity of the match came in the 57thminute as Chad Barrett found space on the left side before crossing it low into Matias Perez Garcia. The Argentine’s left-footed effort flashed wide of Chris Seitz keeping the match scoreless.
FC Dallas earned their first shot on goal in the 74th minute as buildup play from Fabian Castillo found Kellyn Acosta at the top of the box. His curled effort lacked the power to beat Bingham, however.
FCD nearly found the go-ahead goal as the clock hit 90 minutes. A free kick from Mauro Rosales found the head of Walker Zimmerman sending the ball into the face of goal but Bingham was able to collect the chance.
The 0-0 draw is FCD’s second road shutout of the season and extends the team’s unbeaten streak to four games one point behind Colorado for first place in MLS. FC Dallas returns to action on Thursday at Toyota Stadium against Texas Derby rivals Houston Dynamo in the final match before a two-week Copa America Centenario break.
