Reggie Cannon Signs New Four-Year Contract with FC Dallas

U.S. Men’s National Team defender signed through 2023

Frisco, Texas – FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon has agreed to terms on a new, four-year contract, with a club option for the 2024 season, the club announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

“We’re happy for Reggie,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt. “He means so much to our club and has a bright future ahead of him. As he continues to grow with FC Dallas and the U.S. Men’s National Team program, he has become one of the top young talents in MLS.”

“I’m thrilled about this opportunity,” said FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon. “My focus is to continue developing as a player and help FC Dallas be the best team in MLS.”

Cannon, 21, signed with FC Dallas as the 18th Homegrown on Dec. 22, 2016 and has appeared in 71 FC Dallas matches across all competitions, recording three goals and four assists. Cannon scored his first career playoff goal in the 39th minute of the Audi 2019 playoff match against Seattle Sounders FC on Oct. 19 at CenturyLink Field, starting Dallas’ comeback in regulation before falling to the 2019 MLS Cup winners, 4-3, in extra time.

While with the FC Dallas Academy, Cannon won back-to-back U.S. Soccer Development  Academy National Championships with the Under-16/17 Academy team during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He was also part of the U-18/19 Academy team that won the 2017 Dallas Cup Gordon Jago Super Group, making them the only MLS Academy team to do so in Dallas Cup history.

Cannon spent one year at UCLA and was one of three players and the only freshman to start all 20 matches for the Bruins before signing with FC Dallas. He finished the season third on the team in minutes played (1,753) and was named No. 8 on Top Drawer Soccer’s Midseason Top 100 Freshman Ranking as well as a member of their Freshman Best XI team.

Cannon has 11 appearances for the Stars and Stripes since his first U.S. Men’s National Team call up in October 2018. He earned his first cap on Oct. 16, 2018, playing 84 minutes in an international friendly against Peru and recorded his first USMNT assist nearly a year later against Cuba on Oct. 11, 2019. Cannon made four appearances in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, including the semifinal win versus Jamaica and the 1-0 loss to Mexico in the final.
