CURRENT FORM
- FC Dallas enters Week 2 still in search of its first victory after a 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution last Saturday. Michael Barrios capped off a spectacular 50-yard run beating Brad Knighton at the far post for Dallas' first goal of the year, but the team was otherwise just a half-step off offensively in the season opener. The LA Galaxy needed a comeback for their first victory of the season, 2-1 over the Chicago Fire at home. Daniel Steres and Zlatan Ibrahimovic each found the net in the final half hour as LA took the full three points.
NEW LEADERSHIP
- Both MLS originals enter the second match under new head coaches, the home side under Luchi Gonzalez and the visitors under Guillermo Barros Schelotto. Gonzalez is in his first season as a professional head coach after spending the last six years working his way up the FCD Academy coaching ranks, much like the Homegrown players he now coaches at the pro level. Barros Schelotto returns to MLS for the first time as a coach after spending four seasons in Columbus as a player from 2007-10.
DWARF GALAXY
- Over the last three seasons, FC Dallas has gone undefeated against the Galaxy, with a 5-0-1 record in MLS play and a 1-0-0 record in one Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matchup. In three matches at Toyota Stadium, Dallas has outscored LA 9-3 in three straight wins. On the road, Dallas has had two big matches in Carson in the same span - an extra-time winner in a 2016 U.S. Open Cup Semifinal matchup and a 0-0 draw later that year to secure the club's only Supporters' Shield to date.
ONE-FOR-ONE
- Michael Barrios buried his only shot and had a game-high three key passes in last week's season-opening 1-1 draw with New England. The midfielder's 13-minute strike is the seventh goal in his last 15 MLS regular season matches dating back his first career hat trick on July 23, 2018 in Kansas City. With five assists to his name in the same span, Barrios remains a pivotal part of the Dallas offense under Luchi Gonzalez.
THE YOUTH
- Last week, three of the seven youngest players to see the field in an MLS match came from FCD and LA. Paxton Pomykal (7th - 19 years, 2 months, 13 days) and Jesus Ferreira (3rd - 18 years, 2 months, 6 days) came off the bench as an attacking spark in the season opener, while Efrain Alvarez (1st - 16 years, 8 months, 12 days) made him MLS debut and assisted on Daniel Steres' equalizer and played a role in Zlatan Ibrahimovic's game-winner in a 2-1 result over Chicago. Ibrahimovic, by contrast, was the oldest field player to see action at 37 years and 5 months of age. Ferreira remains the fourth youngest player to appear in MLS all-time, making his debut in 2017 at 16 years, 5 months and 11 days old.
