FRISCO - The 2019 MLS season is officially upon us as FC Dallas and the New England Revolution meet on Saturday afternoon at Toyota Stadium.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
- FCD vs. NE all-time: 18-23-3 (60 GF, 68 GA)
- FCD vs. NE at home: 10-11-2 (30 GF, 29 GA)
- FCD 2018 record: 16-9-9 (57 pts., 4th in West)
- NE 2018 record: 10-13-11 (41 pts., 8th in East)
DOUBLE DIGITS
- FC Dallas will look to make it 10 straight home openers without a loss at home on Saturday. Since 2010, Dallas has taken at least a point in the home debut with a 6-0-3 record, including a run of six straight wins that was snapped with a 1-1 draw in last year's opener vs. Real Salt Lake. All-time, FCD is 13-4-6 in home openers, including a 2-1 win over New England in the 2017 home opener.
A NEW ERA
- Saturday will mark the official start of the Luchi Gonzalez era at FC Dallas. Named the seventh coach in club history on Dec. 16, Gonzalez takes the helm after six seasons with the FC Dallas Academy, most recently serving as Academy Director since 2015. In his time with the Academy, Gonzalez directly coached all nine first-team players who carry the designation of Homegrown. Moises Hernandez, who does not carry the official designation of Homegrown is the one Academy-product on the roster that he did not directly coach.
THE PRESS IS ON
- In his first season at the helm of the Revs, Brad Friedel showed a heavy preference to a high-pressing scheme. Under Gonzalez, FC Dallas figures to play a very similar style of winning the ball back as far up the field as possible. It's a high-risk, high-reward style of play that could make for an exciting back-and-forth game loaded with offense during the 2019 opener.
FRESH FACES
- The Revs have filled out a more complete starting look in year two under Friedel with additions like outside back Edgar Castillo and striker Juan Fernando Caicedo, who looks to improve New Englands fifth-worst 49 goals scored in 2018. For Dallas, the assumed starting lineup going into 2019 features just Bryan Acosta as the lone true new face to the club, with Ryan Hollingshead, Paxton Pomykal and Jacori Hayes making surges up the depth chart in preseason. FCD did add depth through the acquisitions of Bressan and Zdenek Ondrasek, along with Homegrown and SuperDraft signings, who hope to make their own impact sooner rather than later.
