HOMEGROWN DERBY
- Saturday's match features two clubs with similar philosophies. Both Dallas and Real Salt Lake believe in building from within by developing and playing Homegrown players. In 2019, the clubs set an MLS record when they played a combined 12 Homegrown players in one game (RSL played seven, FCD played five). Last game, FCD had two Homegrown starters (Eddie Munjoma and Tanner Tessmann) and a further three entered the game as second-half substitutes (Dante Sealy, Ricardo Pepi and Paxton Pomykal).
"It's a Homegrown duel, or derby if you want to call it that, and I take a lot of pride in that. But we're going to put a lineup to start the game that we feel can get the next step and business done. And we look forward to this next week of competitions to make those decisions." —Luchi Gonzalez
FIRST GOAL
- It's no secret that FCD hasn't been as ruthless in front of goal as they'd like to be. So far in 2021, Dallas has only scored the first goal in one of its five matches (Andrés Ricaurte's opener in the 4-1 win over Portland Timbers). Going a goal down, regardless of the clock, changes the whole outlook of the game and Dallas won't want to be on the receiving end of that again—especially at home this Saturday.
"We've got to score that next one," Luchi said this week. "I think we're at that point. We talked with the group today. We just need one of those to go in. Obviously, we've got to keep creating more. The more you can create, the more chances you have to score. So we'll hold ourselves accountable and be response to create more and get more volume."
HOME RECORD vs. RSL
- FC Dallas and its players can be buoyed by the fact the club has a stellar home record against Real Salt Lake. Since RSL joined MLS in 2005, FCD has lost just once at home against the Utahns and that was back in 2013. Overall, Dallas has a 13-1-4 home record against RSL and will look to add to that win column here on Saturday.
